Privacy Policy
Effective date: March 2, 2025
Last updated: March 2, 2025
Equityref (“we,” “us,” “our”) operates equityref.com (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what choices you have. We are committed to keeping things simple and transparent — we collect very little data.
Information We Collect
Equityref does not require registration, login, or any form of account creation. We do not ask you to submit personal information such as your name, email address, or phone number to use this Site.
The only data collection on this Site comes from Microsoft Clarity, a behavioral analytics tool. Here’s what that means in practice.
Microsoft Clarity
We use Microsoft Clarity to understand how visitors interact with the Site. Clarity helps us see which pages are most useful, where visitors get stuck, and how we can improve the experience.
What Clarity collects:
- Page views and navigation patterns (which pages you visit, in what order).
- Click and scroll behavior (where you click, how far you scroll).
- Session recordings (anonymized replays of how visitors use the Site).
- Heatmaps (aggregated visual data showing popular areas of a page).
- Device and browser information (browser type, screen resolution, operating system).
- Approximate geographic location (country/region level, not precise location).
What Clarity does not collect:
- Your name, email address, or any personally identifiable contact information.
- Passwords or financial information.
- Keystrokes in sensitive fields.
Microsoft Clarity uses first-party cookies to distinguish unique users and sessions. Data collected by Clarity is processed by Microsoft in accordance with Microsoft’s Privacy Statement.
Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. This Site uses cookies only through Microsoft Clarity — we do not set any additional cookies ourselves.
Cookies used on this Site:
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| _clck | Identifies unique users for Clarity analytics | 1 year |
| _clsk | Tracks the current browsing session | 1 day |
| CLID | Identifies the first time Clarity saw this user | 1 year |
| ANONCHK | Indicates whether MUID is transferred to ANID (used by Microsoft) | Session |
| MR | Used by Microsoft to reset or refresh the MUID cookie | 7 days |
| MUID | Microsoft user identifier used across Microsoft services | 1 year |
| SM | Used by Microsoft Clarity in syncing the MUID across domains | Session |
You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block cookies entirely, though this may affect your experience on other websites. Disabling cookies will not affect the core functionality of Equityref — you can still read all content without cookies enabled.
How We Use the Data
The behavioral data collected through Microsoft Clarity is used exclusively to:
- Understand which content is most useful to visitors.
- Identify usability issues (broken layouts, confusing navigation, dead clicks).
- Improve page design, structure, and readability.
We do not sell, rent, or share visitor data with any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.
Third-Party Services
The only third-party service with access to visitor data on this Site is Microsoft (through Clarity). We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, advertising networks, or any other third-party tracking tools at this time.
If we add any new third-party services in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy accordingly.
Data Retention
Microsoft Clarity retains session data for up to 30 days. Aggregated analytics data (heatmaps, metrics) may be retained longer in our Clarity dashboard, but this data is not personally identifiable.
Children’s Privacy
Equityref is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your data:
- Opt out of Clarity tracking: You can disable cookies in your browser settings, use a browser extension that blocks tracking scripts, or enable your browser’s “Do Not Track” signal.
- Access and deletion: Since we do not collect personally identifiable information directly, there is typically no personal data for us to provide or delete. For data collected by Microsoft Clarity, you can refer to Microsoft’s Privacy Statement for information on exercising your rights with Microsoft.
For California residents (CCPA): We do not sell personal information. The data collected via Microsoft Clarity is used solely for analytics purposes as described above.
For EU/EEA visitors (GDPR): If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, our legal basis for processing data through Clarity is legitimate interest in improving our website. You have the right to opt out at any time by disabling cookies or using a tracking blocker.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as our practices evolve or as we add new features to the Site. When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
For full terms governing your use of the Site, please also review our Terms of Service and Disclaimer.
